Jyotisha or Jyotishya is the traditional Hindu system of astrology, also known as Hindu astrology, Indian astrology and more recently Vedic astrology.
Vedic Astrology is an ancient Indian science that explains planetary motions and positions with respect to time and their effect on humans and other entities on earth. Vedic astrology can be traced thousands of years back. This Vedic astrology is based on the sidereal zodiac system in which the positions of planets are calculated based on where they are actually observed in the sky with respect to constellations.
Vedic astrology is more astronomically accurate than Western astrology. Another difference between these two systems like Vedic and Western astrology is that Vedic astrologers focus more on the dharma and karma of their subject, while Western astrologers focus on how the planetary aspects affect us psychologically.
Also, Vedic astrology is ancient Indian astrology referred to as Jyotish in India. This all includes the system of astrology that is both practical and spiritual in nature. Which grew out of the Vedic era in India along with Yoga and Ayurveda.
The earliest treatise on Jyotisha, the Bhrigu Samhita, was compiled by the sage Bhrigu during the Vedic era. The sage Bhirgu is also called the ‘Father of Hindu Astrology’, and is one of the venerated Saptarishi or seven Vedic sages.
